FOUR TYPES OF GIVING

Tithes, Offerings, Alms, Faith or Grace Giving

TITHES
Mal 3:8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. 9Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. 10Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

Tithes are given out of obedience and are
A. Planned - 1st day of the week
B. Personal - every one of you
C. Proportionate - as God has prospered
1Cor 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

OFFERINGS
Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

Offerings are given out of sincerity.
When there is a need in a ministry of the Church out of a sincere burden for that ministry you give over and above the tithes, i.e. van, teens, pews, bathrooms, sound system

ALMS
Mat 6:1- 4 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

Alms are given out of concern
When there is a personal need that out of concern for that need you feel led to give, i.e. benevolent causes, poor people, light bills, electric bills, any number of other needs that God speaks to your heart about

FAITH OR GRACE GIVING
2 Cor 8:1-5 Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia; How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality. For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves; Praying us with much entreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints. And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.

Faith Promise is given out of faith
1. What it is
a. It is Scriptural (II Cor 8:12; 9:7-8)
b. It is an act of faith (Heb 11:6)
c. It involves every member
d. It is an organized approach to mission giving
2. What it is not
a. It is not a pledge
b. It is not something that someone will come to collect
c. It is not determined on the basic of what you can give, but is based on what you are willing to believe God for.
d. It is not taken away from what your present tithes and offerings are.
3. How it works
By faith, each member contributes a certain amount which God leads him to promise on a weekly basis to the missionary outreach of the Church. The offering is in addition to his regular giving. The promise is made between the giver and God, so he must look to God to supply the need so he can give.

Some of the things we will talk about over the next few weeks

1. Keeping the right perspective
2. Financial Freedom
3. Monthly Cash Flow (the “B” word)
4. Dumping Debt
5. Retaining Riches

THE CHALLENGE
1. Become a good steward
Lu 16:10 He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. 1Co 4:2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

2. Give at least a tithe Pr 3:9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: Mal 3:8-10 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

3. Create an emergency fund Mt 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

4. Develop a budget Pr 27:23-24 Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds. For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?
Lu 14:28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

5. Pay off debt & become debt free Pr 22:7 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender. Pr 10:22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

6. Train your children
Pr 1:8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

7. Teach others 2Tim 2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
